News from the St. Baldrick's Partnership
October 18, 2011
Childhood Cancer Canada is proud to partner with the St. Baldrick's Foundation, the world's largest volunteer-driven fundraising effort for childhood cancer research. Through this partnership, proceeds from St. Baldrick's head-shaving events throughout Canada are distributed to Canadian institutions through the C17 Research Network. The network, consisting of leading experts from Canada’s 17 children’s hospitals and treatment centers, ensures that funds are going to the best possible research throughout Canada.
On October 3, Melody Khodaverdian, Childhood Cancer Canada's Manager of Donor Relations, visited the St. Baldrick’s main office to meet with staff to identify areas for further collaboration and ways to grow events in Canada. Melody, pictured above with St. Baldrick’s Executive Director Kathleen Ruddy, says of the partnership, “We are all very excited about the future of the St. Baldrick’s and Childhood Cancer Canada partnership and are greatly looking forward to expanding and fostering more events in Canada.”
Every school day, 10 Canadian children are diagnosed with cancer - 1,500 each year. The more than $92,000 raised this year alone, contributing to an over $262,000 fundraising endeavor, clearly shows the dedication of staff, volunteers and donors within Canada to conquering kids’ cancer, and ensuring each and every one of these children has a chance for a healthy and successful life.
