My diagnosis of Acute Myelogenous Leukemia provided me with a new direction, a new set of priorities and interests and an all-encompassing new view of life. The day I was released from the hospital following a one-month stay, I walked out of my room at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and promised myself that my battle with cancer wasn’t over. My qualities as a person did not allow me to walk away from something so life altering and accept its terrorizing demeanor. I had questions, and I want to be surrounded by the answers in my future. Therefore, the inspiration was born and I launched into the pathway necessary for a medical career, with the ultimate goal of specializing in pediatric oncology.
