I was diagnosed with leukemia when I was four years old. I didn't know at the time, but my parents were devastated to watch me fight for my life for two years as they supported me through it. I'm now 18 years old and attending university, and although I've forgotten most of the memories from my treatment, my parents haven't. This year, I recieved a Childhood Cancer Canada scholarship, which will help pay for my university education, where I am studying Communications. And to remind myself of the cancer I once fought, I try to volunteer for any event that benefits cancer research when I can. While I'm happy to have survived my fight with cancer, I know there are millions of other people in Canada who have just begun their fight. And until the best treatments, medicines, and cures are available, I will continue to volunteer as often as I can.
