My name is Karisma Lee and I am a cancer survivor. In October of 2004, I turned 18 and I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. I started intense chemotherapy and radiation treatments that lasted for two and a half years. I never really understood why I got cancer, but I knew that dwelling on this absurdity was not something that would help me. Instead, I chose to embrace my sickness and was determined to beat it. I had a lot to live for. I had many goals and dreams that I wanted to fulfill and my family, especially my little brother, was a huge inspiration. Many people would view cancer as a handicap, but I think of it as a blessing in disguise as well as a learning experience. I learned that if I could conquer the battle with cancer, I could conquer anything that was an obstacle in my life.
