When I was 9, I was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. While most children had the privilege of attending school, playing sports and being with friends, I was in the hospital. I spent a lot of time with doctors and nurses and it wasn’t long before I knew I wanted to pursue a career in medicine. My oncologist even invited me into his lab where he conducts research on various cancers and I saw my cancer under a microscope. I was beyond inspired that day. I believe everything happens for a reason. I always wondered what could possibly be the reason than innocent child was diagnosed with cancer. I now realize it is because my purpose in life is to help those who are diagnosed with cancer. I have worked extremely hard finishing high school as an Ontario scholar and gained admission into the Life Science Program and the University of Toronto so I may continue on with my dream of being an oncologist.
