My name is Priya Rehal and I would like to tell you about a turning point in my life. My summer of 2005 I was running back and forth between doctors and specialists. All I knew was that there was something wrong with my neck, a bump of some sort. I remember being told to leave the room, the doctor whispering to my parents. The week following my birthday, I was invited to SickKids. The hospital was bright and beautiful. The waiting room was dead and desolate. It was then that I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I exploded out of the room crying, and could not help but question, “Why me, god?” Today I have come a long way. I cannot help but say “Thank you, God”. I appreciate every colour, every garden, every breath, every appointment I walk out of being told I am fine. I think of my scar as a tattoo, it is when I look in mirror to remind me how far I have come.
