Childhood Cancer Canada and Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation launch Snipping for Hope, a campaign to raise money for childhood cancer

May 15, 2020 (TORONTO, ON) – Childhood Cancer Canada and Coast and Coast Against Cancer Foundation have launched Snipping for Hope, a new fundraising initiative that engages childhood cancer supporters to turn their home-haircutting experience into funds to help end childhood cancer. Dr. Jim Whitlock, pediatric oncologist and the Chair of C17, the national organization for Canadian childhood cancer and blood disorders, accepted the challenge, with his video shared today on social media.

“Dr. Jim Whitlock is the inspiration for Snipping for Hope,” said Sandi Hancox, VP of Development for Childhood Cancer Canada and Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation. “When Dr. Whitlock told us he wanted to cut his hair for childhood cancer, we knew there would be others who would want to do the same. We hope that supporters across the country will join Dr. Whitlock by taking the Snipping for Hope challenge and have their home haircutting experience make a difference for kids with cancer.”

Kids across the country are still fighting cancer during this crisis and unfortunately new children are being diagnosed with cancer every day. Childhood Cancer Canada and Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation support children and their families through a variety of programs such as Empower Packs, the Survivorship Scholarship, the Benevolent Fund, and more. The Foundation is also the primary funder of clinical trials and childhood cancer research for C17.

“I challenge other pediatric oncologists and advocates across Canada to join the Snipping for Hope challenge and raise funds for childhood cancer,” said Dr. Jim Whitlock, pediatric oncologist and the Chair of C17, the national organization for Canadian childhood cancer and blood disorders. “Please join me in supporting Childhood Cancer Canada and Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation by making a donation to support childhood cancer – whatever you can spare in these difficult times – because childhood cancer doesn’t stop for COVID-19, and so neither can we.”
