Gifts of Securities

Make your generosity go further.

Donating publicly traded securities, such as stocks, bonds, or mutual funds, is one of the most tax-efficient ways to support Childhood Cancer Canada.

When you donate eligible securities directly, rather than selling them and donating the proceeds, you can eliminate the capital gains tax on their appreciation while receiving a charitable donation tax receipt for their fair market value.

It’s a smart way to maximize the impact of your giving, helping us be there for families facing childhood cancer while investing in vital pediatric cancer research.

Planning a gift before year-end?

To help ensure your donation qualifies for a 2026 charitable tax receipt, we recommend initiating mutual fund transfers by December 11, 2026, and other securities transfers by December 18, 2026. While we will continue processing gifts until December 30, transfers must be completed by year-end to qualify for a 2026 receipt.

How it Works

Childhood Cancer Canada uses the CanadaHelps platform to facilitate gift of securities and mutual funds.

  • Complete the online pledge Provide details about your securities or mutual funds donation. Once complete, download the Letter of Direction form. You will also receive an email confirming your pledge. CanadaHelps will receive and process your pledge.
  • Send the completed Letter of Direction to your broker authorizing the transfer of your shares to CanadaHelps. It typically takes 1 to 2 working days for the transfer to settle within the CanadaHelps account.
  • CanadaHelps will promptly sell the shares Once proceeds are received, CanadaHelps will send you a detailed confirmation email with your charitable tax receipt and disburse the proceeds from the sale, less CanadaHelps non-commercial rate, to Childhood Cancer Canada.
