Childhood Cancer Canada is committed to protecting the privacy and personal information of our families, donors, event participants, partners, and other stakeholders.
Personal information is any information that can be used to identify a person. Business contact information and certain publicly available information, such as names, addresses and telephone numbers that are published in telephone directories, are not considered personal information. We value your trust and are committed to transparency and accountability with the treatment of all information we collect.
Ways we collect your information
We collect personal information from donors, event participants, partners, and other supporters to enable us to provide support to childhood cancer families. We collect information from childhood cancer families to provide programming as requested by them. We do not trade, rent, or sell the names of our valued community or supporters.
Program recipients
Our staff receives information on childhood cancer families to provide programming that the family has applied for or other opportunities for which they have given contact consent. Safeguards are in place to protect the integrity of this information and to ensure that it is not shared more widely than the purposes outlined above.
Donor information
Giving history is kept on file to allow individuals to track their giving history and for tax purposes. We also may use your information to reach out and request additional support for our mission. As a donor, you may request to update your account to ‘do not contact / solicit’ at any time.
Event participation
Historical data on event participants tracks the success of past events for Childhood Cancer Canada (CCC), and for participants who may request information on their previous participation. Information is also utilized to provide CCC updates, to inform participants on upcoming events or other opportunities that may interest them, and to request support for CCC’s mission.
Volunteer information
We collect volunteer information to ensure that those who volunteer their time to support our community can be put into a position of trust. We also use this information to keep volunteers up to date on future opportunities to support CCC and our mission.
Website information
You may have provided information to us through our website by subscribing to our newsletters or applying to one of our programs. We use password protocols and a secure website to protect this personal information. Your non-personal identifiable cookies may be used if you visit our website to improve your user experience while on our site. You can turn this off by updating your browser settings. What we do with your information
We may use your information to contact you with updates on CCC or programming, or to share ways that you can support our mission. If you do not wish to be contacted, please use the ‘unsubscribe’ option at the bottom of our newsletters or reach out to [email protected] to request your status be changed to ‘do not contact’.
Safeguards are in place to ensure your information is secure. Our employees and volunteers sign confidentiality agreements and agree to not use your information outside of the explicit reason it was collected. We use security measures for our office, firewalls and software solutions for technology security, and a secure fundraising tool that uses international PCI (payment card industry) standards for fundraising to protect your information.
We only use your information with your consent. This consent may be expressed or implied. Individuals may contact us at any time to ask that personal information be removed from our records or to update any changed information for accuracy.
