February 14, 2024 (TORONTO, ON) – Childhood Cancer Canada is excited to announce a renewed partnership with CIBC Foundation to support our Survivor Scholarships program
This generous donation of $150,000 will enable 100 young cancer survivors to pursue their dreams of going to college, university, or a vocational training institution. Angie Ramalho, Executive Director at Childhood Cancer Canada, says this funding fills a gap in the support available to young people—for some, a vital means of continuing their academics after high school.
“CIBC is giving young survivors the opportunity to live their dreams despite cancer,” she says. “Each year, we receive over 160 applications for this program, and due to limited funds, we have had to be selective with our awards. With the support of CIBC, we can increase the number of survivors who can receive a scholarship, giving them the financial boost they need to succeed in learning and life.”
To date, more than 2,000 survivors have been awarded a Survivor Scholarship for post-secondary education—that’s more than $2.6 million in scholarships since 2000. The application period for the 2024 academic year is open from March 1 to April 30.
Childhood Cancer Canada and CIBC believe we can continue to provide vital support and opportunities to young adults affected by childhood cancer as they strive to reach their full potential.
